Founded when Uckange's last working blast furnace fell silent, MÉCILOR plays a crucial role in keeping the memory of the Uckange site alive.

MÉCILOR is made up of a team of volunteers, most of whom are former steel workers and workers and foremen from the forge at Uckange and neighbouring towns, who are on hand to provide guided tours for groups of visitors.

Every year, the association puts together a different historical exhibition that pays tribute to the realities of life at the old forge and the steelworkers' technical, cultural, political, social, trade unionist and human heritage, both within and outside the forge’s walls.
